Surely even today they still tell the story that
Maria and Joseph in a barn in Bethlehem received a baby. This was approximately
2,000 years ago. And approximately 50 years was passing by when I was selected
to play Joseph, and Suzy from Sempacher Street was Mary. This happened
in Zurich and the barn was a schoolroom. Suzy sang "Joseph lieber, Joseph
mein..” and for this the rhyme was «Kindelein» and I sang "Maria
liebe, Maria mein .." and again «Kindelein».
My mother found the
performance very beautiful. She said the blonde Suzy |
|
was a pretty Maria - and also I as Joseph
- quite passable. About the «Kindelein» she did not say anything.
It was only a doll. However, the hay in the crib was real. So it was then.
About the Joseph some years later... he was training
as a student electrician, with "broken voice". And about the blonde Suzy,
we don't know. As an electrician student one has to go to the Technical
School, and there is no singing and celebration of Christmas - but diverse
things one must learn there. Also about chemistry which was my most beloved
subject...probably the one that caught my interest |
|
the most in the Tech School.
At home I volunteered to make records of what
I learned. I wrote and also drew pictures with colored pencils. Chemistry
is a colorful discipline and sometimes it makes "Boom!" and it stinks by
certain experiments. All this I committed to paper, the formulas, the flames,
the Bunsen burner and the beakers with green, blue and magenta brews bubbling
away. And naturally - with explaining texts.
I filled page after page with enthusiasm and
quite good illustrations, unfortunately it's true, with my own miserable
handwriting. |
