It
is true that the PowerTower
was my idea but it is not entirely my work. A farmer living in the Swiss
Alps, named René
Imhof, (born February 1, 1935) has made
his contribution to my "ChurchTower". It was he who carved the figures
of Christ from pieces of wood that he had collected in the forest and whose
forms had suggested to his pious mind the idea of a crucifix. My wife Evelyn
bought several carvings from him and when we moved to the United States
these figures traveled, of course, with us. And, in the end they became
- unbeknown to the carver - part of my sculpture. Why does René
Imhof create religious wood-carvings? It is true that he sells only a few
and gives away many to people in need. But he believes in the power of
these Christian symbols, in the power of faith. And I believe in the power
of the faithful, therefore the title, PowerTower.

BEST
OF SHOW: For the second time Jan Loeffler
has won the Best of Show (Juror: Sparky LeBold) award with another sculpture.
His piece POWERTOWER has a religious theme. Formerly of Switzerland, Jan
is very impressed with the different religions of our country. He is very
moved by the strong convictions of the various faiths as well as the freedom
of expression. His POWERTOWER seeks to encompass all humanity in the outreached
form of the steel and wooden creation. back

October
1997: The PowerTower was moved from Colorado Springs to a new home.
We pledged this religious installation to the Holy
Cross Abbey in Cañon City. Very
Rev. Kenneth C. Hein, O.S.B. not only
welcomed this gift, he was the "TransVan" driver as well as the "BaseDigger",
transporting this almost 9 feet high tower and helped with the installation.
